OpenDNS is a new service I've just discovered. Basically you setup them up as your DNS servers (either on your computer or your router) and they provide some value add features.
Interestingly they claim that these features will always be free and that they make their money by serving adds on pages which they can't serve (eg. spack.ogg). They offer a few features but the key ones seem to be:
- Typo correction, type in spack.og and they will redirect you to spack.org
- If you go to a known phishing site they redirect you to a safe web page which explains how and why you ended up there.
- Dynamic DNS service (unfortunately they run their own protocol for so it doesn't look like it will work from things like your Linksys router).
This is quite a neat service, they even let you create an account and disable some of the features if you don't like them (like I'm not sure I like typo correction).
UPDATE: Suck, that [[didn't work out so well|Discussion]].
According to Telstra they've been seeing it cause problems for
quite a few people as well.
